AFRICA CENTRE SUMMER FESTIVAL 2017
The Africa Centre Summer Festival
VENUE: Great Suffolk Street, London, SE1
TIME: 12pm – 10pm
The Africa Centre’s Black British Music Stage will be hosted by dynamite lyricist and M.I.A collaborator Afrikan Boy who’ll be introducing each act as well as closing the event with a special set in his own inimitable style.
This year, we’re focussing our attention on new talent and are featuring exciting up and coming voices who have something to say. Artists throughout the day include Paigey Caikey who brings her unique razor-sharp social commentary with a gritty urban edge. Londoner Hak Baker – who used to be a member of the grime collective B.O.M.B Squad before he picked up a guitar and started writing his own soulful music. There’ll be adventures in jazz from all woman outfit Nerija and songstress Dee Adjayi and Gambimi [both from Birmingham] will introduce us to their special brand of RnB and NeoSoul. We are excited to welcome The Fedz, a [15-strong] collective of Singers, MCs and Musicians who are godfathered by 2 seminal producers: James Poyser [Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo and Jill Scott] and Dennis Bovell [The Slits, Neneh Cherry] who were chosen as 1xtra’s HOT for 2017. Riding high and influencing the music scene and dominating the dance floors around the world is Afrobeats. This is the sound that comes straight from the motherland and is being embraced by the diaspora and beyond. This is the music of Moelogo and Sneakbo.
